Association for Specialist Fire Protection

Understanding Passive Fire Protection

Manchester seminarThe Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is working with a range of organistions, including LABC and fire services, to offer a series of regional CPD seminars in locations throughout the UK and Ireland during 2017.

The first event, which took place on Wednesday 26 April at the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Training Centre, was highly successful with 120 delegates attending.

Bookings are still open for the second event, which takes place on 4 May at the SECC in Glasgow. The event will form part of the Scotland Works exhibition. Starting with a breakfast roll at 8.15am and finishing at 11.30am, this free morning session will start with a review of the findings of the Report of the Independent Inquiry into the Construction of Edinburgh Schools, which highlighted failures in the quality of construction and fire-stopping installation in a number of Edinburgh schools. It will also provide essential passive fire protection advice.

Registration for the Glasgow event can be completed via the Scotland Works registration process, by selecting the relevant seminar at the end of the process.

The events are aimed at improving awareness of passive fire protection. Understanding Passive Fire Protection, offers presentations on all aspects of passive fire protection, including the role of fire doors, frames and fire seals; door hardware maintenance and replacement; fire-resistant glazing; fire ducts and dampers; structural fire protection; compartment wall penetrations and firestopping. It also offers an insight into  fire risk assessment and what to look for in relation to passive fire protection.

The events are suitable for anyone who is responsible for specifying or inspecting passive fire protection or those appointing trades that could cause damage to existing fire protection in the process of their work. They should particularly appeal to practising Fire Risk Assessors, Responsible Persons, Local Authorities, Facilities Managers, Building Control, and Care Home Providers.

Further events are planned in Leed and London later in the year. For information on upcoming events please call 01420 471612; or Email ASFP
