The Building Safety Act 2022 has introduced a new regulatory regime where the requirement to demonstrate competence is put front and centre. The Act and associated secondary legislation set a general requirement for competence at both organisational and individual levels. For individuals, that means that any person carrying out building or design work must possess the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours necessary to carry that work out. The Industry Competence Steering Group (ICSG) (a working group of the Building Safety Regulator’s statutory Industry Competence Committee) was established to support the development of industry guidance across the built environment that can help employers and individuals to identify what competent looks like and how it can be demonstrated. The ASFP works with ICSG and wider industry to lead work in relation to defining benchmarks routes to competence specific to passive fire that support individuals and employers. A key pillar of ICSG’s work is broad consultation across industry. Open Consultation | Managing Competence for Fire Resistant Glazing Installation Activities

ICSG sector led group 10, was established to lead the development of approaches to competence for installation and maintenance activities.

Under this structure, a group of industry representatives including employers and trade associations has come together in the Fire Resisting Glazing Competence Group (FRGCG) to look specifically at requirements in this area.

Following extensive research and analysis, FRGCG has produced a proposal for the standard of skills, knowledge, experience and behaviour required and routes to competence for those installing fire resistant glazing. Comments are now invited on the proposals.

Open Consultation | Managing Competence for Installation of Fire Protection to Building Structures

ICSG sector led group 10 was established to lead the development of approaches to competence for installation and maintenance activities.

Under this structure a group of employers and representatives has come together in the protection to building structures competence group (PBSCG) to look specifically at benchmarks and pathways for competence in the installation of fire protection to building structures.

This includes structures made from timber, concrete or steel, protected by boarding, intumescent coatings and / or non-reactive coatings.

Following extensive research and analysis, a proposal for the standard of skills, knowledge, experience and behaviour required and routes to competence in this area has been developed. Comments are now invited on those proposals.
