This collaborative event between the ASFP and BESA brings together leading expertise in both passive fire protection and building engineering services to address critical issues affecting fire safety, compliance, and best practice across the built environment.
The programme will explore:
-
Passive Fire Protection Coordination (ASFP – PMcS):
An overview of the ASFP Passive Fire Design Guide, highlighting the essential coordination required between designers, contractors, and fire protection specialists to ensure effective and compliant PFP solutions. The session will outline common design and communication challenges and provide practical guidance for achieving fully integrated fire-safe construction.
-
On-Site Practices: Space Grab & Tech-Screws (ASFP – AT):
A focused look at the ASFP Space Grab Guide and the risks associated with improper fixing methods—particularly the misuse of tech-screws. This presentation will clarify how incorrect on-site practices can undermine tested systems and compromise fire resistance, offering clear do-and-don’t guidance for installers and supervisors.
-
Fire Dampers: Design, Installation, Inspection & Maintenance (BESA):
An introduction to BESA’s DW145 guidance, covering best practice for ensuring fire dampers perform as intended. The session will address common installation and maintenance issues and outline the BESA training pathways supporting competent workmanship in this safety-critical area.
-
Managing Grease Fire Risks in Kitchen Ventilation (BESA – Keegan Farrelly):
An overview of BESA’s TR19 Grease specification, outlining the fire risks posed by grease accumulation and the standards required for safe ventilation hygiene. The presentation will also introduce the Vent Hygiene Register, demonstrating how accredited contractors can evidence compliance.
Bringing together both organisations, this event offers a comprehensive look at how coordinated design, competent installation, and rigorous maintenance underpin effective fire safety across building systems. It is designed for designers, installers, facilities managers, and anyone committed to raising fire safety standards in the built environment.
