The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) Founded in 1975, the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is the UK's leading trade association dedicated to the advancement of passive fire protection. Recognising the crucial need for collaboration, we bring together manufacturers, contractors, and certification bodies to set and uphold the highest standards in passive fire protection. The ASFP is committed to serving the needs of our members and the broader passive fire protection industry. We focus on raising standards and improving competence through comprehensive training, rigorous testing, certification, and ensuring quality installation and maintenance practices. Mike Ward Managing Director As Managing Director of the ASFP, Mike drives the Association's growth by enhancing efficiency, meeting members' needs, and fostering connections within the construction supply chain. With a strong background in sales and marketing, he leverages his expertise to ensure the ASFP remains a key industry player.
Dr Andrew Taylor Head of Technical Dr Andrew Taylor leads the ASFP Technical Team, guiding the development of technical guidance, publications, and industry standards. With over 30 years in fire protection coatings, his extensive experience drives the advancement of best practices and the enhancement of industry standards.
Nadine Saxon Operations Director Nadine guides strategic decision-making and ensures alignment with the Association’s goals. She manages daily operations, oversees finances, and ensures Association's governance. Nadine fosters stakeholder relationships, mentors the operations team, and implements risk management strategies to protect and advance the Association.
The ASFP Executive BoardThe Executive Board's primary responsibilities include collaborating with the ASFP Managing Director and Business Manager to establish budgetary and financial goals, oversee legal and constitutional matters, and set performance targets for both the Managing Director and Operations Director. The Executive Board consists of the ASFP Managing Director, ASFP Operations Director, the ASFP Chair, and the ASFP Vice-Chair. The ASFP CouncilThe ASFP Council plays a crucial role in advising and guiding the strategic direction of the ASFP, focusing on four key areas: establishing the organisation's vision, mission, and values; setting strategy and structure;

Sharon McClure Chair of ASFP & Director of Avesta Scotland Ltd As Chair of the ASFP, I bring over 20 years of experience in passive fire protection and a deep commitment to advancing fire safety standards across the UK. As Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Avesta Scotland Ltd, I’ve dedicated my career to championing best practices and innovation in the built environment. My involvement in multiple construction industry working groups and boards has helped shape policy and drive collaboration across the sector. In this new role, I’m focused on leading the association through a period of significant change, supporting our members, and strengthening our collective voice to ensure a safer future for all.
Jamie O'Hagan Vice Chair of ASFP & CEO, Structural Fireproofing Systems Jamie brings over 30 years of experience in fire protection. Since starting in 1992, Jamie has progressed through various roles, amassing a wealth of expertise across all aspects of the field. His career journey has provided him with a deepunderstanding of both the technical and practical elements of fire protection. Now, in my role as ASFP Vice Chair, I’m committed to supporting the Association through all regulatory changes and more.
Moe Elmasry Technical Manager, Golden Thread Fire Delay Moe has over 15 years of experience in passive fire protection, currently serving as Technical Manager at Golden Thread Fire Delay. With a BSc in Chemical Engineering, an IFE Level 3 certification in passive fire protection, and a NACE CIP Level 2 coating inspector qualification, he is also pursuing a Level 4 diploma in Fire Safety.
Alan Curran Fire Engineer & Technical Director, OFR Consultants With 30 years in construction and 20 years specialising in fire safety, I’ve worked across firestop contracting, product manufacturing, TFL, and now a leading fire design consultancy. My firm conducts research for DLUHC and publishes up to 20 papers annually, providing insights into emerging standards.
Carrie Blackshaw Fire Protection Sales Director, Minster Carrie Blackshaw, a leading authority in fire protection, heads the fire protection division at Minster, overseeing product and solution offerings and enhancing team expertise. With over 15 years in the industry, she has extensive experience in product development, fire testing, and building regulations.
Liam Keenan Technical & Managing Director, Compliance + Fire Limited Liam Keenan brings over 10 years of construction experience, including 6 years specialising in passive fire protection (PFP). His background includes roles as an external PFP consultant, Technical Support, and Technical Manager at a leading PFP company.
Carl Burrell Regional Market Director, Sherwin-Williams With over 26 years in the fire protection industry, I began as a research chemist developing intumescent coatings and have since held various technical and global market roles. Currently, I serve as a Regional Segment Director for fire protection.These roles have provided me with a global perspective on both active and passive fire protection.
Will Pitt Technical Leader, Laing O'Rourke Will is the Technical Leader at Laing O’Rourke, overseeing specialist functions including the fire technical assurance team. With 30 years of experience in engineering design, management, and construction, he is a Chartered Engineer.Will’s background includes technical roles providing him with deep insights into complex building engineering issues.
Matthew Jones Technical Support, ROCKWOOL International Matthew Jones is the Head of Fire Protection and HVAC at ROCKWOOL Ltd., bringing nearly 10 years of dedicated experience to the role. Driven by a passion for ensuring safety in the built environment, Matthew's strong foundation includes an IFE Level 3 in Passive Fire Protection and extensive internal expertise.
Ian Outram Fire-stopping Technology Manager, CPG UK Ian Outram I have spent 22 years in the and have a very good understanding of Site, Laboratory and User requirements. 16 years with Firetherm and 8 years Nullifire, consistently working the ASFP within TG3, and being a member of both European and British Standard working groups.
