Fire Safety Event 2024: ASFP lead the charge on passive fire safety awareness

03 May 2024

ASFP Fire Safety Event 2024This year's Fire Safety Event saw ASFP make passive fire a burning topic within safety in construction. Our expert staff were met with an overwhelming response to their talks and discussions, while our Passive Fire Experience trailer provided a space for building professionals in all sectors to congregate and spark conversations for change.

Day 1 saw the launch of our talks at the Passive Fire Conference, with Naill Rowan (ASFP's Technical & Regulatory Affairs Officer) opening the event, discussing a potential new role for manufacturers in installed passive fire protection. Following this, David Roulstone (National Commercial and Marketing Manager, Etex) and Paul Nash (Technical Manager, FSi Promat) lead a talk on the key considerations for building movement and fire-stopping penetrations, to a captive audience.

The afternoon saw Karthick Govathanam (General Manager, Firefly Fire Barriers) provide a detailed examination of PFP requirements in roof spaces, followed by Antonino Piazza of Rockwool who provided an update of Rockwool's innovative work within PFP.

The next day featured more expertise from industry leaders and our own technical officers, beginning with Simon Ince (Program Manager, UL Solutions) who discussed a technical evaluation developer program for firestop and related systems. We also heard from Paul McSoley (Technical Compliance Director, Mace Group) who discussed construction procurement and product safety as well as The Power of Regulation 7. ASFP's newest Technical Officer Adam Shipstone took to the stage alongside Stuart Southall in the afternoon, with the day being closed by Moe Elmasry (Technical Manager, Golden Thread Fire Delay) who delivered a packed-out talk on design, scheduling, and installation within PFP.

The final day featured Leah Hand (Senior Account Manager, Bolster Systems) who discussed the impact of digital solutions on UK fire safety and building compliance, and Stuart Southall (Technical Officer) closed the Passive Fire Conference with a talk on the importance of sharing data for the benefit of the industry.

Niall Rowan also took to the Fire Safety Leaders Summit with his talk: Elevating Standards - The Crucial Role of Passive Fire Protection. His expertise was received by a hugely receptive audience that surpassed capacity. The response to Niall's talk was a signifier of the recognition PFP is now holding within the fire safety conversation.

Alongside our talks and presentations, our Managing Director Mike Ward welcomed numerous members and new faces to the ASFP Passive Fire Experience trailer - spreading awareness of our role within the PFP industry and engaging many new faces on the importance of specialist fire protection when approaching design and build. We were able to build our member base even more, foster new connections, and create collaborations for future projects - all with the objective of raising awareness of PFP and leading industry-wide change.

We hope to see all our new connections at next year's Fire Safety Event, where we will return with new experiences, new expertise, and plenty of room for new members.
