ICSG announces restructure and renewed focus on competence within the built environment

10 December 2024

The ASFP welcomes the announcement of the ICSG's comprehensive restructure and its closer collaboration with the Industry Competence Committee (ICC).

These changes mark a pivotal step towards enhancing competence across the built environment and fostering the necessary cultural shift to improve building safety. As part of this restructure, the ASFP is proud to lead the newly established Sector-Led Group for Passive Fire Protection (SLG12).

This initiative formally acknowledges the critical role of passive fire protection (PFP) competence in ensuring building safety. By providing a unified voice for the PFP sector, this group will work to promote the importance of PFP and drive progress in key areas.

The Sector-Led Group will bring together representatives from across the PFP industry and focus on:

- Addressing gaps in PFP development: Supporting areas that have previously been overlooked in industry responses.

- Harmonising efforts across the sector: Coordinating ongoing work to ensure consistency and alignment within the PFP domain.

- Embedding PFP competence throughout the building lifecycle: Ensuring best practices and competence are maintained at every stage of a building’s life.

The ASFP's ongoing collaboration with partners in the PFP industry has already laid the groundwork for improving building safety. The formation of this group will accelerate these efforts, aligning them with the ICC’s mission to establish robust competence frameworks mapped to the BS 8670 series. By contributing to this cross-industry initiative, the ASFP reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of safety and competence, ensuring that passive fire protection continues to play a central role in safeguarding lives and buildings.
