ASFP Welcomes Sharon McClure as New Chair, Succeeding Clive Miles

09 May 2025

The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is proud to announce the appointment of Sharon McClure as its new Chair, succeeding Clive Miles after his impactful two-year tenure.

Clive, who steps down following a period of significant progress and expansion for the association, reflected on the achievements made under his leadership. “Two years ago, I spoke of the need to embrace innovation, skills development and digital transformation. Today, I’m proud to say we’ve brought that vision to life,” he said. Milestones during Clive’s term include the launch of the ASFP Office & Academy, enhanced member engagement workshops, and the formation of the ASFP Young Leaders Group. His tenure also saw the ASFP deepen its cross-sector influence, contributing to the Industry Competence Steering Group and signing the Conflict Avoidance Pledge.

Incoming Chair Sharon McClure addressed members with passion and clarity. “It’s an absolute honour to take on this role, especially in our 50th year. But with this honour comes a great sense of responsibility,” she said. Sharon outlined a bold vision to strengthen collaboration across the construction industry and prioritise passive fire protection as a fundamental element of building safety, not an afterthought.

She continued: “The construction industry is too often driven by conflicting priorities. We must rise above commercial pressures and fragmented responsibilities. It’s time for passive fire protection to become a unifying force for safety, integrity, and long-term value in the built environment.”

The leadership transition was marked by a moment of warmth and appreciation, as Clive was presented with a commemorative frame recognising his service from 2023 to 2025. “Clive has been the steady hand and driving force behind so much of our recent progress,” said Mike Ward, ASFP Managing Director. “His commitment to collaboration, innovation, and member value has set a strong foundation for the future.”

As the ASFP continues to grow in membership, influence, and ambition, the appointment of Sharon signals a continued commitment to sector leadership, competency, and cross-industry collaboration. Supporting her in this journey, Jamie O’Hagan of Structural Fireproofing Systems has been appointed Vice Chair, bringing over 30 years of fire protection experience and a deep understanding of both technical and practical aspects of the sector. Together, they represent a strong leadership team ready to guide the ASFP into its next chapter.
