ASFP Technical Groups & Committees
The ASFP manages several technical task groups and committees that drive the association's core activities. These groups are responsible for drafting key documents, shaping policy, overseeing various initiatives such as marketing, and coordinating events.
ASFP members have the flexibility to join any number of groups, allowing company representatives to participate in task groups that align with their interests and expertise. Non-members are generally excluded from joining, except in exceptional cases where specific skills or knowledge are deemed valuable by the association.

Our Groups
Technical Committee (TCOM)
TCOM decides what tasks are allocated to the various task groups and also reviews any decisions or publications that task groups produce before they go to ASFP Council for approval before publication. Where publications transcend the scope of a number of Task Groups then TCOM is responsible, as is the case with the ASFP Guide to Passive Fire Protection for Fire Risk Assessors.

Task Group 1 - (TG1) Reactive Coatings
TG1 together with TG2, is responsible for drafting and maintaining the iconic ASFP Yellow Book – 'Fire Protection for Structural Steel in Buildings' now in its 6th edition.
TG1 is also responsible for a number of Technical Guidance Documents including 'TGD11 - COP Specification & On-site Installation of Intumescent Coatings'.

Task Group 2 - (TG2) Non-Reactive Products
TG2 together with TG1, is responsible for ASFP Yellow Book and is also responsible for a number of Technical Guidance Documents including 'TGD02 - COP, Sprayed Mineral Coatings for Fire Protection of Structural Steel'.

Task Group 3 - (TG3) Firestopping
TG3 is responsible for drafting and maintaining the recently revised 'ASFP Red book – Fire stopping & Penetration Seals for the Construction Industry' and is also responsible for a number of Technical Guidance Documents including TGD 17 Code of Practice for Installation & Inspection of Firestopping, TGD 19 Fire Test Method for Open State Cavity Barriers and the recently published ASFP On-site Guide to Installing Fire-Stopping.

Task Group 4 - (TG4) Reaction to Fire
TG4 considers reaction to fire of passive fire protection products. This group is currently dormant.
Task Group 5 - (TG5) Partitions
TG5 considers reaction to fire and fire resistance performance of non-loadbearing partitions and drafted the 'ASFP Purple Book – Fire Resisting Non-Load Bearing Partitions'.

Task Group 6 - (TG6) Fire Resisting Dampers & Ducts
TG6 is responsible for drafting and maintaining the recently revised 'ASFP Blue book (BS) – Fire Resisting Ductwork Tested to BS 476: Part 24 3rd Edition', the 'Blue Book (EN) – Fire Resisting Ductwork Classified to BS EN 13501 Parts 3 & 4' and the 'ASFP Grey Book – Fire Resisting Dampers and Smoke Control Dampers'.

Task Group 7 - (TG7) Active Fire Curtain Barriers
This group was established in December 2016 and drafted the 'ASFP Black Book' which aims to provide guidance on the specification, use and application of active fire curtain barriers.

Task Group 8 - (TG8) Fenestration & Glazing
TG8 aims to provide guidance on the specification, use and application of fire rated glazed systems in building construction and is responsible for drafting the 'ASFP Clear Book – Fire Resisting Glazing'.

Task Group 9 - (TG9) Digital Golden Thread
TG9 Focuses on the collection of and passing on of construction information for the purposes of golden thread.

Task Group 10 - (TG10) Fire Doors
TG10 focuses on addressing the critical issues surrounding fire doors and door sets in the UK, particularly in light of new regulations. This group is responsible for drafting the 'ASFP Green Book – Fire Door Systems'.

Task Group 14 - (TG14) Passive Fire Protection for the External Envelope
This group covers what best practice looks like in terms of the products, performances, designs, interfaces, and methods that are designed-in, specified, and installed in this critical part of the overall building structure.
