ASFP Announces updates to Level 2 Foundation in Passive Fire Protection
01 November 2024

The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is pleased to announce significant updates to its Level 2 Foundation in Passive Fire Protection course, aligning it with the recent changes made to the Level 2 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection by the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE). Effective March 2025, the IFE has introduced a new assessment structure for the Level 2 Certificate, requiring candidates to complete four individual awards rather than a single examination. To accommodate these changes, the ASFP has adjusted its course delivery to ensure comprehensive coverage of the new units. Key Changes to the Course: - New Assessment Structure: Candidates will now need to complete four individual awards: Building structural frame and flame-retardant coatings, Walls, floors, ceilings, and glazing, Fire Stopping, barrier, ductwork and dampers, as well as Doors and shutters.
- Flexible Learning Options: Students have the flexibility to choose and sit individual units, allowing them to specialize in areas that align with their career goals.
- Course Delivery Updates: The ASFP has modified its course delivery to reflect the new IFE assessment requirements, ensuring that students receive the necessary training to succeed in the examinations.
Support for Existing Students: The ASFP is committed to supporting students who have already enrolled in the Level 2 Certificate course. To discuss these changes, all delegates currently enrolled in an online foundation course have been contacted. If you are currently enrolled in an online foundation level 2 course, please check your emails for information relating to your course. Benefits of the Updated Course: The updated Level 2 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection offers several advantages, including: - Enhanced Alignment with Industry Standards: The course now aligns more closely with the IFE's updated assessment structure, ensuring that graduates possess the skills and knowledge required by the industry.
- Increased Flexibility: Students have greater flexibility to tailor their learning to their specific needs and career goals.
- Comprehensive Coverage: The course provides comprehensive coverage of the four individual awards required for the Level 2 Certificate.
